I’ll be honest, I’ve always been hesitant with foldable flats, despite their practical nature and obvious handy benefits they usually look and feel quite cheap. That is until I discovered Butterfly Twists at the Pure London fashion trade show last week. It was the colour and design that caught my eye first, then the foldable function became apparent.
You’re spoilt for choice with the Butterfly Twists styles which start at just £20; classic Chanel-inspired quilting with patent toe caps, block colour beauties, brocade slipper-styles that are bang-on for this autumn/winter and even metallic foldable brogues feature in next seasons range.
On the practical side they are of course great for dashing around in the morning to work, then just pop them in your bag and don your work shoes when you get to your desk. Popping out for a mummy lunch and want to feel a bit dressier in heels? Rest safe in the knowledge that you can always ditch the tottering for your foldable flats sitting happily in their neat little pouch in your change bag anytime.
The foot-loving 6mm memory foam insoles make them comfier than regular ballet flats and the soft, flexible soles are light without feeling like you’re in your slippers.
If you think that’s enough flexibility for your footwear, think again! Butterfly Twists even do fold-down wellies, £50.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore my glossy black Hunters, but classic coloured wellies with neon soles that don’t take up half the boot when you go anywhere are hard to refuse! Perfect for rinsing off then folding right up after a festival or walk in the woods then just pop straight into their handy bag.
As for the celebrity seal of approval, girl-about-town and style icon Olivia Palermo has been spotted out in a pair of their leopard lovelies, £25, so if they’re stylish enough for Miss Chic herself, they’re good enough for me!
Available at ButterflyTwists.com and selected Office stores. Soon to be stocked in Jones Bootmaker stores.
