Mini style | Back To School with Debenhams

It’s almost back to school time or make that back to cool in the case of uniforms these days with so much more choice for children now; I remember resenting the discomfort of my uniform with stiff skirts and shirts and itchy jumpers. Now, as a mum, September in our house means we can get back to not having to argue about what clothes are suitable for the weather/occasion/activity because the school’s rules are not to be argued with – unlike mine, apparently.

High street retailers and supermarket brands have upped their school wear game since my childhood but with so much on offer, where to look first? Debenhams invited us to try out their uniform collection and Little Miss Fussyknickers (AKA the 6 year old) and I were both very impressed.

The range of course spans boys and girls wear with plenty of choice when it comes to cuts and shapes to meet a variety of school specifications as well as comfort for the kids (including generous size options). With great washability and hardwearing fabrics too to keep parents happy, not to mention good price points.

5 rules of school style

1. Design detail: Subtle additions like bows add a little detail without embellishment overkill.

2. Picture perfect: Hardwearing and easy-to-wash fabrics keep their uniform pristine for class photos

3. Carry all: Backpacks don’t need to be boring, but nor do they have to be covered in cartoons.

4. Move it: uniform needs to be comfortable in the classroom and at playtime

5. All smiles: Happy child = happy parent (and teacher!)

Autumn Term Essential

Last but not least a lightweight raincoat is essential in the Autumn term before it really gets cold enough for a winter coat. Children get too hot in bulky coats with uniform when running around at playtimes so we love Regatta’s plain navy raincoats for their waterproof quality and packability.
