As much fun as buying new clothes can be, do we purchase carefully and think whether a new item we’ve just picked up really will work with what’s already in our wardrobe? Sometimes it’s hard to say no when that new top/bag/dress [insert any item here!] is calling us but it definitely pays not only to know what gaps there are in our wardrobes (do a wardrobe detox every season at least to find out!) but also to think carefully about said new item and how versatile it really is. The WOW factor is all well and good, but if it doesn’t go with anything else you already own – step away from the till.
With this in mind I have put together 6 ways to wear 1 dress. I chose this skater dress from Sugarhill Boutique at House of Fraser because I spied with my stylish little eye that it would be super versatile. And guess what – I was right! The result is 6 ways to style this dress for different occasions and these didn’t take long for me to come up with so I guarantee there are many, many more besides.
The dress
The fit and flare shape of this skater style dress is ultra flattering for those with hourglass, pear and rhubarb figures. If you’re an apple or strawberry (top and tum heavy) look for more of a tunic shape dress with a v neck and you could recreate all of the looks below.
1. Workwear layers
Coat, Clements Ribeiro (past season) | Shirt, Hawes & Curtis | Belt, Matalan (past season) | Shoes, Aldo (past season) | Bag, Warehouse (past season) | Sunglasses, RayBan
2. Summer denim
Denim shirt, Matalan (past season) | Necklace, New Look
3. Print clash
Top, Next | Belt, Matalan (past season) | Shoes, Aldo (past season)
4. White & metallics
Blazer, Primark | Belt, Primark (past season) | Shoes, Marks & Spencer (past season)
5. Dressed down daytime
Jumper, M&Co
6. Night out
Jacket, La Redoute | Necklace, New Look | Sandals, French Connection (past season)
How would you style this dress? Which of these 6 looks gets your vote?
Thank you to House of Fraser for gifting me this Sugarhill Boutique skater dress.
Love this so much! It wouldn’t occur to me to pop a jumper or top over a dress to create a new look. I’d wear any of these yet they all feel v different.
