Championed by the likes of Alexa Chung, the crop flared jean has been having a fashion moment for a couple of seasons now so it was about time I gave it a whirl. But how to wear them when you’re not Alexa Chung, nor 6 feet tall? I share my top tips:
Style tip: Keep it chic and simple with a monochrome look.
Too much going on could leave you looking like you tried too many trends in one outfit so keep it pared back and classic in grey or white and black.
Style tip: Loosely tuck in your top.
This style of jean will shorten legs so let your pins appear longer by raising the waistline to elongate.
Style tip: Push up those sleeves.
It’s one of those easy stylists’ tweaks that can finish a look and works well to show off wrists which will make your arms appear slimmer as a result and also draw the eye to the waist to focus on that higher rise jeans and yep, lengthen legs.
Style tip: Wear with heels.
Like it or not, heels will always help legs appear longer, and while the flat white trainer look may be oh-so-now, it’s not the most flattering for proportions when paired with a cropped flare. So try this style of jean for smarter and evening outfits where you can pull off a heel too.
Style tip: A long scarf will disguise thighs.
If you tend to carry weight on your thighs, wear a scarf draped simply around the back of your neck and let the ends hang loose. This will distract from chunkier legs which can appear wider in a mid wash blue jean and streamline your curves.
