If you follow me on Instagram you can’t have missed all the 4th birthday party photos (spam!) I’ve been sharing over the past week or so. My eldest daughter and this blog’s namesake, turned 4 this week and we celebrated with a big party. I’m not one for character clothing but Coco Lily does have a Minnie Mouse ears headband which she loves and when I asked what kind of party she would like, she asked for said mouse theme.
I’ve already featured polka dots as a key print for the season so I took this aspect of the Minnie look and ran with it! It seemed to take over my life for a few weeks and I’ve already said ‘never again!’, but it was worth it and it seemed like everyone had fun.
I thought I’d share mine and both my daughter’s themed outfits for the party – to show fancy dress doesn’t have to mean shiny polyester and mesh (though a shocking pink sleeping beauty costume was requested – and bought- as a birthday present!).
And yes, I really did wear heels this high and white jeans to a kids’ party – and survived!
Mama: Large spot top, Mango | White distressed relaxed skinny jeans, Next | Red cut out sandals, Office
Mini 1: Polka dot jersey dress, H&M | Canvas pumps, Mothercare
Mini 2: Polka dot dress, Matalan | Pink patent t bar shoes, Next (Coco Lily wore striped pumps with bows from Primark – not available to buy online)

Decorate your own mouse ears activity: Ears hand made with black card and thin black headbands, eBay | Pens, stickers, feathers, Wilkinsons
Party bags: Neon paper bag, Asda | Pen & notebook, 99p store | White spot stickers (on bags and note books), Wilkinsons | Chocolate lolly, hand made. 
Cheats cake: two Sainsbury’s ‘Decorate your own’ cakes, re-iced and stacked one on top of the other, with home-iced plain (bought) cupcakes
Top tier: pink icing layered over existing white icing and white spots and Minnie Mouse added.
Bottom tier: Pink spots added to existing cake
Preparing chocolate star lollies: Star mold, Wilkinsons 
Minnie Mouse head bunting: cut out paper shapes and sewn together 
Crepe paper pom poms

I absolutely love those red shoes, and the birthday girl’s shoes were pretty cute too! Love the matching polka dots, I actually did a polka dot Mother & Daughter outfits post a while back! Looks like a great party, and you did so well to survive with the white jeans, I wouldn’t even dare haha!
