It’s easy to get carried away with your new season style at the best of times, let alone when you’re pregnant and it seems like the perfect excuse for a whole new wardrobe. Alternatively you may be of the thinking that it’s not worth buying anything when your bump starts to grow and you’ll make do with what you already have.
Either way, you can stock up without spending a fortune to satisfy any shopping cravings (they’re totally normal cravings along with pickled onions, right?!) and treat yourself to something practical yet stylish that’ll take you through pregnancy and beyond.
A whole maternity look under £50?
I was invited by Matalan to choose some maternity items from their Summer collection and set a budget of £50. I went for a top-to-toe look rather than a selection of basics to see if was possible to do an entire maternity outfit for just £50. Here is the verdict…
The dress
This basic dress is comfortable and a flattering fit (empire line midi dresses are much more flattering than I’d expected as a self-confessed jeans & tee girl!) and washes really well, which is of course important with your basics.
As with many things in your mum-drobe it’s great for an item to be multi-functional; I wore this dress (right) for a day in the office but team it with sandals and a clutch and you’re all set for evening. I’ll also pair it with flip-flops or converse for a relaxed day off.
Accessorize it
This fab shard necklace (right) is my new favourite accessory, livening up even the simplest t-shirt. And as a must-have in every wardrobe who can resist a scarf (below) for just £3. It’ll change the look of the dress for daytime casual on a cooler day as an alternative to a statement necklace.
Never one to resist a heel – but realising that now I’m with toddler and bump perhaps my trusty heels will have to be lowered – I opted for these gladiator style wedges to complete the look.
