There was a time when, despite being a mum of 3 boys, Victoria Beckham only wore vertiginous heels. Even when little Harper came along Mrs B would carry her baby daughter while tottering in the highest of platforms. Something even I – as a heels devotee – was in awe of, thinking eek! what if she trips?
Yet now this popstar-turned-designer seems to have a new found love for flats, posting a photo on Twitter of her new Stubbs and Wootton slipper shoes last week ahead of her AW14 show at New York Fashion Week. It seems this high heel addict has realised, like the rest of us that sometimes, when you’re juggling work and a family that flats are friendlier.
Thankfully flats are far from frumpy these days and although the slipper shoe has been around for a few seasons now, this stylish, masculine inspired footwear is set to stay.
Victoria chose (or was perhaps gifted!) a £300 pair from high-end shoemakers Stubbs and Wootton but there are plenty more purse-friendly options on the British high street right now, from simple black to quirky motifs, stripes and metallics, here’s the CocoMamaStyle pick of the best.
Striped, jcrew.com; Leopard print, debenhams.com; Quilted black, riverisland.com; Black with bat motif, asos.com; Metallic, Mango at asos.com; Blue studded, frenchsole.com; Teal, LK Bennett at johnlewis.com
Agree. I love heels for all their posture straightening benefits and the added dose of elegance they give you but on a practical level, I’m a flats girl.
My favourite are definitely the French Sole, blue studs. Gorgeous!
