Mini style | Fur trimmed coats and jackets for girls

Keeping children warm and toasty at this time of year can be a bit of a challenge; if yours are anything like mine they spend half the time refusing to wear a coat full stop! While finding winter coats that are the right mix of durable, cosy, practical and affordable is on the wishlist of most of us, finding something that is also fun and stylish to keep the girls happy too is a must.

They need to be able to race around the park or school playground in a coat that isn’t overly cumbersome. Look for something that doesn’t get in the way of their fun, but would also look smart and respectable on a family day out. Fabrics should be easy to keep clean and the coat should be easy to slip on and off for those mornings when you need them to just hurry up and get out of the door. We also want it to be made out of long-lasting fabrics that still look good as winter draws to an end. With all of this to consider, it’s a miracle that we manage to find something suitable at all!

All coats, Tu

The range of girls coats from Tu has so much to choose from this season, all designed to appeal to us parents eager to keep out the cold, as well as the tiny trendsetters themselves. There are puffer jackets, faux fur coats, belted gilets and that’s just for starters. Little ones can wear a winter coat in one of their favourite colours, with neat additions such as faux fur-trimmed hoods and collars.

Here’s our top 5 from Tu:

1. Little Red riding hood

I often spot mini styles which I secretly wish came in grown-up sizes too and this red duffel coat is one of those. With its faux fur-trim, toggle fastening and polka dot lining it has the detail that children love with a classic look.  Its also available in chic camel colour, but the bright red shouts festive fun to a tee.

2. The grey gilet

TU girls coatThe gilet is a must-have in children’s wardrobes to take them through autumn and into winter and spring without fuss. Freedom of movement, easy to carry and ideal for layering to suit the weather, they’re essential is any form. With several gilets in the Tu winter coats for girls range it’s the dove grey suede option with plaited-style belt that’s on our wish list this season. In a delicate dove grey shade that will work well to tone down even the busiest of outfits – if your children are anything like mine when it comes to dressing themselves. The faux fur lining gives the softness and comfort that’s important to them and practically it’s great to layering over a denim jacket or chunky knit, or underneath a bigger coat or raincoat when it’s cold and wet outside.

3. Parka life

It’s a classic for all ages: The Parka. It’s a great option for children especially with plenty of pockets for collecting leaves and conkers in the park or stashing knick knacks from home to take out. This parka, available in pink or khaki is made in a shower-resistant fabric so it’ll keep them dry while cosy with it’s faux fur-trimmed hood.

4. Pretty in pink

A hooded coat ticks the functional box while fun appliquéd animals will always be a hit with the little ones. This coat in both navy and pink features fox and rabbit characters, but it’s the pink that my youngest would choose every time. Finished with faux fur lining and trimmed hood with cuffed sleeves, those icy winds won’t get through to your little lady.

5. Printed puffer

There’s no denying that unicorns are having a big fashion moment right now for the little ones and my girls adore anything with this mythical (sorry, real!) creature emblazoned across it. Tu’s navy blue unicorn-themed puffer jacket, complete with faux fur trimming on the hood certainly has the fun factor with its playful print, yet the neutral navy ensure it will go with anything and everything. Add in the elasticated waist with bow detail and it has extra prettiness to please the girliest of girls.

Which winter warmer would your little lady choose this season?
