One of the big trends of the season brings a soft touch to our wardrobes with faux furs, shearling and touch-me textures. If you follow my instagram feed you will have noticed I have this thing with fur – faux fur. I am regularly wearing my key faux fur pieces: a Warehouse gilet, Helen Moore scarf and Kaleidoscope coat – not all at once though, I might add! From the school run to an evening out they are versatile, cosy and add a touch of glamour to my daily style.
As a must-wear trend for the colder months and one that gets me asked “Ooh, where’s that from?” 10 times more than any other (not necessarily statistically accurate, but you get the idea!), I thought it was about time I covered faux fur in a blog post.
Top faux fur style picks
To make a statement in the style stakes a faux fur jacket or coat is the way forward. Choose your tribe: winter whites, animal prints, colourful furs or just a bit of trim to dip your toe into the trend which is fast being a winter wardrobe staple.
- V necklines will flatter a curvier chest, while round necklines work better on a smaller bust.
- Thick fur will add bulk so keep the layers beneath simple and lighter weight
- Choose your length carefully; the hem will draw the eye to a line across your body, so make sure it sits above or below your widest point. Pear-shaped? Look for a shorter length to sit above your hips.
- If you like the idea of a flash of fur but want an investment piece that will last beyond this season, look for a winter coat with a detachable fur collar. Many styles this season offer just this.

Accessories more your thing? While on a photoshoot with George at Asda recently (more to follow another time!) I lusted after these four pieces which start at just £4. Sadly the bobble hats are not currently online, but they are in store so you’ll have to pop to your nearest ASDA to snap up one of these.
