Two trends, Three ways | #ItsInTheDetail

Two key trends for autumn/winter are faux fur in any colour, shape or style and embellishment, because all that glitters is gold, silver and anything that sparkles this season.  But when to wear and how to style these trends I hear you ask! Well, dressed down glitz and dressed up fur are two ways and there’s also a combination of both somewhere in between.

I chose two pieces from Kaleidoscope’s latest TV campaign* to style in three different ways (though the possibilities are endless!) to show you how to work these versatile trends together and separately for all occasions.

Super soft to the touch and neutral in colour with added detail, this sweater ticks all the boxes for an autumn wardrobe must-have. Coloured fur? Check. Relaxed fit? Check. Yes, this coat has got it going on.

Look 1 | Mix-and-match

On paper you may be tempted to think faux fur and embellishment wouldn’t work within one outfit and as this sweater only has detail on the shoulders I suppose it is cheating a little (as you can’t see it once the coat is on!) but this look shows that both the key items here are versatile enough to add other colours and textures to for easily put together daytime style.

Top tip: Pay attention to detail and turn up your sleeves. Long sleeves on oversized fur coats can swamp you so turn in your cuffs to just above the wrist to show the slimmest part of your arm for the most flattering finish.

Look 2 | Dressed-up

I let the blue faux fur be the focus and wore with an all black outfit from (high) neck to toes.  The ribbed roll neck is a key piece this season and adds a demure edge to a leather skirt. If pencil skirts aren’t your thing, you may be pleased to know that the a-line leather skirt is big news for AW15.  If this is your choice, pair with long boots.

Top tip: If you go all black in your outfit, be sure to combine different textures between your top and bottom half to add that all important detail.

Look 3 | Dressed-down

A sparkly or detailed knit adds interest to a day look that’s perfect for mum-duty. I kept it simple with neutral accessories and a flash of fuchsia with a feather bag charm.

Top tip: When you’ve got embellishment on your top half keep jewellery to a minimum.
