The start of a new season is a great excuse to try out new looks and mix up your style staples. For me, I don’t wear a lot of black and instead work most of my outfits around denim teamed with colour and prints.
That was until Kaleidoscope asked me to choose an outfit* from their latest collection that would create a bit of a #NewMe for the new season. I will always lean towards jeans and trousers, especially in autumn and as I’m not much of a tights fan I won’t easily be swayed by winter dresses, so I thought to change up my colours with this challenge and it has actually changed my view on lots of outfits since. You may think of Kaleidoscope as a brand that’s only for the more mature lady but you would be wrong. I have actually styled Kaleidoscope press days in the past (several years back now!) and loved spotting the gems that were just right for styling up. It really is about how you style pieces, so here I’ve picked a trend element (trousers), something fun (jacket) and an updated classic (the blouse).
I went all out in monochrome but added that all important flash of colour with pink suede heels for this look which is perfect for days when I’m in Personal Stylist mode; I need my colour in there somewhere! Add a blazer and perhaps less blingy shoes(!) and you’ve got a smart office look.
I adore this jacket (also featured here) in all its fluffy, sparkly glory. It bridges the gap between faux fur, cardi and jacket perfectly to dress up an outfit in a fun way without feeling too heavy while the weather is still mild.
The blouse: your key updater for autumn. If pussy-bows aren’t your thing look for detail elsewhere to update your shirting this season. I loved the lace detail on the sleeves of this blouse, which add a peek at what lies beneath for a younger look than a classic plain white blouse.
Houndstooth is big for autumn/winter in all senses of the word and these trousers are the ideal statement-maker with a smart twist and the black waistband is well thought out to define the waist and creates a border between the off-white houndstooth and in this case, the white blouse.

I’ve worn elements of this outfit at other times, with other pieces (see my Instagram feed or here for more) and it has successfully mixed up my look for the better. Watch this space for more monochrome…!
