There are some things I adore but just not on me. It’s like freckles, I think they look great on anyone else; cute, pretty and carefree, like saying ‘Hey! My skin’s awesome I wouldn’t dream of covering it up in make-up, I just get-up, go and look adorable!‘. But when the sun comes out and my own freckles start appearing I panic at having to wear more, not less make-up in summer just to cover them up.
In the same way there are trends I love that just don’t feel right on me. One such look is boho. I don’t know why, I just don’t think it suits me, however this year as it’s such a big trend I really wanted to try and embrace it, but my way.
Pinterest: Boho style inspiration
The wonderful thing about fashion is the sheer amount of choice out there for us – even if sometimes it feels as though the high street doesn’t show us that and stores stick to similar stories; boho, stripes, florals to name a few this summer. And the key to being a personal stylist is the ability to update an existing wardrobe using trends as a guide and working them into a series of looks which not only suit a woman’s body shape but also her lifestyle.
So here’s what I thought; I like a boho vibe on others but can’t do the full-on print, colours so how can I work this into my summer wardrobe. Sometimes dressing others can be much easier than dressing myself!
How to do boho without going all out
I took the peasant blouse with it’s relaxed bohemian shape and detailing and teamed it with denim shorts – one of my summer staples, mainly because they are so similar to my trusty jeans! – and tan accessories. This brings the boho trend element into a look that is practical for mama-duty, works from beach to bar (given the chance!) and summer days in the city, and in its essence (top + denim) is an easy outfit to wear.

And just because I love a blouse and denim shorts combo, here’s how versatile it can be, boho style or otherwise…

I love the floaty top with shorts. Those are great denim shorts too.

I’m so with you Helen! I’d love to all out Sienna but would feel too fancy dress! It’s a look I adore on everyone else though & you’ve captured it perfectly toned down with this outfit! Love the top! Will the weather ever allow us to get our shorts on?! x
