It’s no secret that I regularly use Pinterest and Instagram for quick and easy outfit inspiration, even for everyday looks I’ll have a quick search or scroll through recent uploads and pins to instantly get an idea for an outfit that day. I don’t spend ages browsing for ideas (not first thing in the morning, anyway!) but I do get bored with wearing the same outfits again and again because I can’t think of different variations when I’m feeling sleep deprived and harassed by two girls under 4 at 8am. So rather than having to engage my brain I can get a flicker of an idea and grab similar pieces from my wardrobe without thinking.
If you also want some quick and easy outfit inspiration which doesn’t involve lusting after endless new purchases or willing your body shape to shift to suit a new trend, I have the answer! I will be bringing you a collection of simple looks you should be able to build from your existing wardrobe with just the odd optional extra plus tips to tweak the look to suit your shape.
First, the easiest, comfiest outfit for mum-duty but with a few stylist’s twists.
Choose a longer length vest or tee for a flash of white under a shorter sweater.
Forget dry shampoo, a denim or leather baseball cap is the modern girls’ stylish solution the ‘run out of time to brush hair before the school run‘ dilemma. Wispy strands of hair falling down just add to the nonchalant look.
Coordinate your block colour slouchy sweater to your plimsolls. Matchy-matchy is so now.
Yellow is the colour of choice but any bright plain knit would give a similar effect. Blue more your hue? Cobalt is a great option.
Roll up your jeans hem, it adds to the dressed-down-but-considered look.
Body shape tips
Go for a v-neck knit with a scoop neck tee if you’re big up top.
A wider slash neck sweater will draw attention to your shoulders and away from wider hips.
Petite? Choose a shorter knit to avoid shortening legs and swamping your frame.
