Wear it now | Yellow and blue

If you are colour confident, you’re probably a seasoned hand at trying different combinations so this will be nothing new to you but if your wardrobe is more neutral than neon I’m here to give you a little nudge in the right direction when it comes to introducing a bit more colour into your outfits.

There are many different ways to inject colour into a look from sneaking in a bright accessory here and there to a full-on colour clash and I’ve picked up on a micro trend that will update even the simplest jeans, sweater and coat look.

How to wear

Shades of yellow and blue really compliment one another (you know, thanks to the whole colour-wheel science thing!) and as both colours stand out this season, why not wear them together.
You may have noticed I’ve introduced this colour-mix in outfits put together recently like the Mama & Me yellow knits and denim skirts and How to wear denim posts so you’ve already had a taster of ways to wear these two colours in harmony.

Don’t think you can’t wear bright blue or yellow, just because you have the ‘wrong’ colouring as there’s always the right shade of every colour for you. Sometimes you may simply need to think about how you wear it and what shade to go for.  But without getting caught up in the do’s and don’ts of colours to suit your skin and hair tone, if in doubt, wear any experimental shade away from your face.

Just add denim and a pair of leopard boots. Both of which are deemed ‘neutral’ in any stylish mama’s wardrobe.

Accessorise in yellow and blue

The patchwork jeans add pattern to this look and the differing blue tones enhance the colour contrast in the outfit for a subtle finish.

Make life easy with a ready-made print

Wear shades of grey as the foundation of your outfit and let one printed yellow and blue piece be the focus.  When the coat comes off this look still holds its own with a relaxed tailoring vibe combining varied textures and a cobalt necklace to finish.  You will probably find the basics of this outfit in your wardrobe already so it gives you the perfect excuse to invest in a fun coat to brighten your style.

Team with black for a dressed-up look

If blue is your hue let this be your canvas to decorate with yellow accents.  This tunic dress will work with opaque tights, leather leggings or dark jeggings for a dressed-down look too and will skim any mum-tum you’d rather disguise while the v neck will flatter a bigger bust.  If you’re an hour glass or straight up and down, nip in at the waist with a simple skinny belt to define your shape and enhance curves.

What colour combinations are you wearing this season? Which of these looks would you wear? I’d love to hear your thoughts below…
