Any nursing mama will know that while it’s relatively easy to get your hands on simple jersey nursing tops in basic colours it’s not always so easy to find something a little more interesting, flattering or, ahem, stylish that still allows access for feeding your little one.
If you’re a new mama it’s also a bit of a feat to find the time (and energy!) to search for something else you can buy, so to help with this – and because it’s been a while since I put together any posts dedicated to nursing-friendly style and this week is World Breastfeeding Week – I’ve scoured the high street favourites for some tops that will not only accommodate access for feeding but will also keep you feeling stylish and hopefully cool in the summer heat and beyond.

New mama style notes
If you’re currently pregnant and looking for some ideal nursing outfits ready for when baby arrives you may want to buy just a couple of tops or dresses at first to see what your nursing style is – and by that I mean how you and your baby are most comfortable feeding.
First time around I felt I needed very straightforward tops then as my confidence grew and latching baby on became like second nature I felt more able to try something fiddlier if it meant a change from basic nursing tops.
Second time around I was much more confident and I no longer fear flashing a bit of tum to lift a loose top up or buttoning-down a blouse to feed baby that way. Personally my go-to style this summer has mainly been lightweight, neutral camis (Primark’s £2 vests with adjustable straps are perfect) under an assortment of looser, also lightweight blouses or tops so I can lift one up, pull the cami down and I feel confident and we’re both comfortable.
Ideally look for fabrics made with natural fibres to help keep you cool because having that little hot water bottle lying on you can get rather toasty!
