4 ways to wear pastels & denim with George

It’s been a while since we had a look at what the supermarket clothing lines have to offer and as the spring season is in full swing (in the shops at least, if not consistent with the weather!) what better time to pick up a few wardrobe updates and make that weekly shop feel less like a chore – is it just me that’s so over meal planning?! – and reward ourselves with a little treat for good behaviour, and not just the magazine/chocolate/present to keep the little ones quiet in the trolley.

The thing is, sometimes it’s hard to visualise an outfit when you’re faced with the food shop ahead of you – especially with tots in tow – so I’ve put together some spring looks from George at ASDA based around denim and pastels to get you inspired with a few seasonal updates to work into your existing wardrobe.

Pencil skirt styling

Pencil skirts can work for mum-ing in provided you go for a stretch denim or jersey fabric.  Go for a low wedge if you need a bit of height for daytime or bring this classic shape up-to-date with a canvas trainer or even better, a skater shoe.

Statement necklaces are everywhere as we all succumb to their outfit-transforming properties but let’s be honest, they’re best saved for when you’re not on mum duty, unless your little magpies can keep their fingers to themselves, or your newborn doesn’t mind a faceful of bling every time they’re winded.  Instead, look for print to catch the eye and when it comes to a simple sweatshirt, this heart-printed grey number dresses down the pencil skirt but is detailed enough not to need any neckwear.

Jeans looks

The diffused print of this top gives leopard spots a softer edge and you can pick up on the pink and blue tones to add layers and accessories with a dark denim base.  If you’re feeling more adventurous throw in a splash of bright yellow instead for a real statement.  Breastfeeding mamas will find the zip front on this top rather useful, if like me you’re desperate for something a bit smarter without having to layer.

While skinny jeans have become a wardrobe staple, never underestimate the hip-slimming properties of the classic bootcut or flare.  If you’re pear-shaped (wider hips, narrower shoulders) they are just right for balancing your curves and a wedge or heeled sandal will add height for a longer, leaner silhouette.  Draw the eye upwards with a printed top and the structure of a shirt will add form to again balance your figure.

How are you wearing pastels this season and what are your essential denim basics?
