New Year, New Shoes (for kids!)

Buying shoes with a small child can prove quite a challenge; you want them to try on the practical pair that they really need, they want to try on everything but, or nothing at all. They want to race around moving all the shoe displays and you want them to sit still and stop wriggling their feet to be measured!
We’ve tried before to buy a pair of junior Converse in navy, thinking this colour would go with everything but the little Princess only wanted to try the neon pink ones. Thinking I was really clever, we tried on the pink and then switched for the navy at the till. Needless to say that after that the blue shoes were simply refused as they are ‘boy’s shoes’ (of course, silly Mummy!) until sparkly jewel stickers were stuck on the toes to make them girly. Lesson learnt!

When visiting a proper shoe shop like Clarks where the assistant does all the sizing and checking fit you can at least rely on them to ensure your tot has the right size, even if you have to cajole them into sitting still for a minute while they get measured. (Bribing with the promise of cake in the coffee shop opposite afterwards works a treat, by the way).

So we booked an appointment at Clarks (their Colliers Wood store in SW London to be precise) and headed down on a Thursday morning.
If you can do this on a weekday morning I highly recommend it; a quiet time when even if you don’t book a fitting time you won’t have to wait with an impatient child and the store is empty enough for your noisy tot not to bother anyone else!

I picked out a couple of pairs to try on but we quickly settled on these (pictured) – they were fit for purpose, had pink laces and were on sale. It’s a good job because once they were on she didn’t want to take them off!  Thanks to quick measuring from the assistant and correct sizes brought t try on speedily the experience was painless for everyone.  Job done.
