A British summer must-have

You cannot beat a decent pair of wellies, but when you’re running around and popping in and out, yanking heavy rubber boots on and off with a toddler in tow is hassle you don’t need. Not to mention when the weather tricks us with sun, showers, warmth and wind in the space of  half an hour, you’re overheating one minute and soaked the next.  So, what’s the solution? Ankle wellies. You won’t end up looking like you’ve been over cautious of the weather when the sun makes an unexpected appearance and you’ll have the ease of a regular boot with the protection of a welly.

When I first saw the Vivienne Westwood Melissa boots I have to admit I wasn’t keen but they’ve been around for some time now and not only can I see the practical value but I’ve become quite taken with them for a cute alternative to sensible footwear!  The high street have great designer inspired versions like these and when you can grab a pair for under £20 your cost per wear (because you will end up wearing them all the time!) is practically pence!

Treat them like a day boot rather than welly but go for slim or straight jeans tucked in. Bootcut jeans over the top will a) defeat the point of saving your hems from getting soaked and b) look quite frankly, silly.  Team with leggings, a dress and mac for a girly touch.

Are you convinced by the ankle welly? Will you stick to regular boots in the wet weather or your trusty traditional wellies?
