Wet weather wear

With such unpredictable weather, well, mainly rain but there are moments of warmth, chill winds and hail thrown into the mix, it’s hard to dress practically.  There’s nothing worse in this weather than bootcuts soaking up the water from the pavement, or flooded feet in ballet flats or soggy Converse.

The best solution cocomama has found is dressing up a pair of black gloss Hunters (and packing ballet flats in the buggy just in case the sun does ever shine unexpectedly!).  Having always played by the self imposed ‘no wellies in town’ rule, the conditions of late have meant this rule has been put aside, for now at least. Peeling off and drying out soaked-through leather boots is no fun after the 5th day in a row.

If you’re a welly-lover there are ways to smarten them up for everyday wear, running errands without looking like you missed the turning to the country. And if you’re a welly-phobe maybe these looks can persuade you that they really can look good!

Here are three looks based around the Hunter black gloss boot but these outfits would work equally well in good weather or with different footwear.

1. Hooded denim jacket, Topshop; Necklace, Topshop; Blouse, Wallis, Trousers, H&M
2. Waterproof pac-a-parka, Topshop; Stripe sweater, Wallis; Spot slim jeans, Wallis
3. Blazer, Topshop; Scarf, H&M; Top, Jigsaw; Jeans, H&M

Style notes…

A loose basic raincoat can easily be thrown over look 3, keeping you dry when it’s showery but stylish indoors and when the rain eases.

Topshop’s pac-a-parkas are waterproof, lightweight, and as the name suggests fold into a neat bag, perfect for keeping in your buggy or change bag.

With a plain welly in black or navy you can treat it like a leather boot when putting an outfit together.

    • Thanks for your comment! I umm’d and ahh’d about whether to go for gloss or matt last Autumn and I’m definitely glad I opted for the gloss version. You’re right, they’re much more versatile and better if you’re a city dweller like me!
